Principles and Applications of the WFI Generation Systems

The Working Principle of the WFI Generation System converts raw water into high-purity injection water through a multi-stage purification process.

The Working Principle and Key Technologies of the WFI Generation Systems

Raw Water Pretreatment

The purpose of raw water pretreatment is to remove large molecular impurities such as suspended solids, colloids, and organic matter. Common pretreatment methods include mechanical filtration, activated carbon adsorption, and softening.

Reverse Osmosis

Reverse osmosis is a membrane separation technology that removes dissolved salts, organic matter, and other small molecular impurities from water. The pore size of reverse osmosis membranes is very small (about 1nm), providing a high removal rate of ions and organic matter in the water.

Distillation

Distillation is a key step in the preparation of injection water. Common distillation methods include multi-effect distillation and steam compression distillation. Multi-effect distillation connects multiple evaporators in series to improve thermal energy utilization. Steam compression distillation compresses steam, reducing the distillation temperature and significantly enhancing energy efficiency.

Storage and Distribution

The prepared injection water needs to be stored in stainless steel tanks and delivered to various usage points through sanitary-grade pipelines. To prevent water quality deterioration, the storage and distribution system requires regular cleaning and disinfection.

Online Monitoring and Control

The WFI generation systems are equipped with online monitoring instruments that can monitor water quality parameters such as conductivity and temperature in real-time. The PLC control system automatically adjusts equipment operating parameters based on monitoring data to ensure stable water quality.

Typical Applications of the WFI Generation Systems in the Pharmaceutical Industry

Production of Injections

Injections are prepared by mixing drugs with injection water and can be directly injected into the human body. The purity of the injection water is crucial for the safety of injections. The WFI generation systems can stably produce injection water that meets pharmacopeia standards, ensuring the quality of injections.

Production of Sterile Preparations

Sterile preparations are produced under sterile conditions, requiring extremely high production environment and water quality standards. The WFI generation systems can provide high-purity, sterile injection water to meet the production needs of sterile preparations.

Production of Biological Products

Biological products, such as vaccines and genetic engineering drugs, have very strict water quality requirements. The WFI generation system produces high-purity injection water that can be used in the preparation of biological products and cell culture processes.

Cleaning and Disinfection of Medical Devices

Medical devices require strict cleaning and disinfection during production and use. The high purity and sterility of injection water make it an ideal choice for cleaning and disinfecting medical devices.

Aseptic Operations

Pharmaceutical production and laboratory operations carried out under sterile conditions have extremely high requirements for the environment and water used. The WFI generation systems can provide sterile injection water to ensure the safety of aseptic operations.

The WFI generation system is an indispensable key equipment in the pharmaceutical industry. With the development of the pharmaceutical industry, the performance and quality requirements of the WFI generation system will become higher and higher. Pharmaceutical companies should choose technically advanced and reliable WFI generation systems to ensure the quality and safety of medicines.
